Seven years after the country passed legislation designed to make it easier for Spain to confront its past, campaigners say searches of the more than 2,000 known mass graves are becoming increasing difficult to carry out. ![]() The search for Lorca’s remains made headlines around the world, but the attention masked an increasingly common complaint across the country. “Everything we’ve done to date confirms that this is the spot we’ve been looking for,” said Navarro. The final resting place of one of Spain’s most famous civil war victims was flagged in a 2011 book detailing his final hours.
